DETROIT -- A Detroit Democrat and groups nationwide linked by the Internet are planning to protest President George W. Bush's inauguration with a one-day economic boycott. David Livingstone said if people don't work or buy things, companies lose money that can't be taxed to fund the war and programs people don't support.
He doesn't expect the Inauguration Day boycott to inflict much economic damage. He's hoping a Jan. 20 blip in the GDP would get the president's attention.A statement on Livingstone's Web site says, "By staying home from work, by not buying products from chain stores, by turning off their cable TV, by not buying (or using) gasoline or other oil-based products, by not making long-distance phone calls -- in an infinite number of ways, Americans will send George Bush a message he sorely needs to hear. America expects accountability, transparency, humanity and justice from an administration which has, up to now, provided little in any of these areas." A White House spokesman said Bush is proud to live in a society where people are free to peacefully express opinions.
